Art. History. Culture.
Greco’s Ghosts (formerly known as Blogistemology) is primarily an art history blog. There are many elements that inspired the name of this site. The word “Greco” describes ancient Greek culture that provided the foundation for so many things in Western art. It also refers to El Greco, one of Spain’s most celebrated painters, tying in the author’s expertise in the history of Spanish art. The word “ghosts” calls to mind our past and the imprint left for us by history. Ghosts, whether good or bad, instruct our desire to study history as a means to understand ourselves, our cultures and the societies we live in.
This is a website examining and promoting the knowledge, understandings, beliefs, and interpretations of art and culture. How does art express or contribute to knowledge? How does art portray what exists in the human soul? Eternal questions that we will continue to explore.
Greco’s Ghosts is dedicated to the history of art and the cultural elements, world events and other surrounding topics involved in the interpretation of art. Written for art educators, enthusiasts, or those simply browsing for inspiration, Greco’s Ghosts aims to offer images, ideas, and stories for constructive discussion as well as enjoyment.
